RUST GRIP is a one part polyurethane coating that
combines with atmospheric moisture to cure. Upon curing,
RUST GRIP provides
a protective coating of superior adhesions, flexibility and abrasion/impact
resistance. It is resistant to chemical solvents and acid splash.
Originally designed for metal surfaces, RUST GRIP demonstrates excellent
adhesion to wood, concrete, fiberglass and many other substrates. RUST GRIP
is designed for the encapsulation of and adherence to the tightly bonded
surface of lead-based and other toxic paints as well as rusted surfaces.

This unique ability is accomplished by the curing mechanism of the base
polymer. The coating (having a low initial viscosity) wets the rusty
surface, then penetrates to the foundation of the rust's origin where curing
begins. The polymer literally begins to swell, developing an interlocking
network between the pores of the surface and the coating.
RUST GRIP is
highly recommended as a base coat for SUPER THERM.
No pot life, no catalyzation, no two-part mixing. Can substitute for
zinc-rich primer requiring no white sandblasting. Can be applied over rusted
surfaces after loose flaking material is removed. High humidity quickens
dry/cure cycle.
PROPERTY
CHARACTERISTICS:
RUST GRIP is a one component, ready to use, specially modified urethane
coating possessing exceptional remedial properties:
- It prevents the formation of rust on fresh surfaces, and completely
stops the growth and spread of existing rust, at the same time,
consolidating and strengthening corroded surfaces.
- It can be applied on to rusty metal surfaces after removing ONLY loose
particles. There is no need to grit blast down to bright, bare metal.
- It has tremendous penetrative power, thoroughly wetting the surface,
then permeating into all the pores in the rust, and beyond, into the base
metal. There is acts both chemically and physically to encapsulate the
rust, forming an interlocking network which ties it firmly to itself and
to the sound metal. During curing, it expands, totally blocking all the
pores, thus preventing access to moisture and water vapor. Because RUST
GRIP is designed to penetrate into the pores of the metal and/or rusted
surface, the initial surface MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY.
RUST GRIP is a
moisture-curing formulation and will immediately absorb any surface
moisture to begin its cure cycle before entering the pores, which will
block it from its designed purpose of galvanizing into the surface. On a
dry substrate, RUST GRIP will penetrate directly into the depth of the
pores, then draw the moisture from the atmosphere to gas itself as a
swelling technique to anchor or galvanize itself into the surface.
- In addition it forms a highly durable, very flexible membrane, which
is tightly bonded to the substrate (being part of the interlocking
network). This membrane is impermeable to water vapor and is highly
resistant to mechanical impact and abrasion, to high and low temperatures,
and to UV radiation.
- It is also resistant to continuous immersion in almost all the main,
aggressive chemical groups, including acids, alkalis, salts, oils,
solvents, and other refined petrochemicals.
- It does not disband due to the action of low voltage, underground
electrical currents (cathodic disbandment), yet easily conducts higher
voltages, thereby avoiding dangerous static electricity buildup.
- It is also capable of being painted on to surfaces which are coated
with lead-based and other old-style toxic paints, which it encapsulates,
rendering them environmentally harmless. RUST GRIP has the ability to
penetrate through the existing coating, it encapsulates and seals it from
weathering and protects it from abuse.
- It is cheap and relatively foolproof to use. Unlike other high
performance, anti-corrosion protective coatings, it does not involve the
mixing of two or more components, and surface preparation is much simpler
and cheaper than the sand blast cleaning down to bare metal surface needed
by other products. RUST GRIP is made with metallics and will settle on the
bottom. Simply stir before use to work the metallics back into the resin.
